Our annual Community Birthday Party originated from a touching narrative shared by one of our board members. He noticed his autistic son facing exclusion from party invitations due to social barriers. This community event serves as an inclusive platform for our Amigos participants and other community members who frequently encounter exclusionary experiences. It offers them an opportunity to come together, celebrate, and feel valued within a supportive environment.

Last year, we brought the bash to the Balsillie Family YMCA. Over 100 more people attended, enjoying the food, fun, and time with friends!

We look forward to bringing it back again, on February 9th, 2025!

Event Overview: Our school Amigos Program, starting in Grade 4, is designed to create an inclusive environment for students who may face barriers to social inclusion. We understand that not every child receives invitations to social gatherings like birthday parties, and we believe every student deserves to feel connected and celebrated.

This event is open to all students (young and old). The aim is to provide a fun and welcoming atmosphere where every participant can enjoy activities, make new friends, and build lasting connections.

Details:

Who Can Attend: Students in the Amigos Program and students who face social inclusion barriers.
Accompanying Adults: Each registrant is welcome to bring up to 2 adults for support/companionship (1 accompanying adult/caregiver minimum for Amigo participants under 21). We want to ensure everyone feels safe, supported, and able to participate fully.

We look forward to creating a space where everyone feels welcomed and included. This is a great opportunity for students and their families to connect and celebrate diversity together!

When: Sunday February 9th, 2025 from 1PM to 4PM

Where: Balsillie Family YMCA (123 Aylmer St.)
